How are we going to fix this 💩?

We've been through a lot in the past four years, haven't we, Reader?

This election season has been particularly hostile. I had a friend who was a Harris supporter. She was supposed to take care of the dogs for me when I go to Florida for my mom‘s funeral next month. She texted me the night of the election and said she didn’t feel comfortable staying in my home because she was (suddenly) upset by my pro-Trump, anti-Harris posts. 😲

Then she unfriended me. I wasn't sure how to feel. At first, I was mad that she totally screwed me over for my mom's funeral (who does that??) I was also sad because I considered her a friend. We hung out on so many occasions, totally knowing our differences in opinions and beliefs, but still had plenty of other stuff to talk about.

Then I was disappointed that someone I cared about pulled this kind of crap completely out of the blue. It showed me her true character.

And it's not just me. I keep hearing and reading stories by friends and connections about people they've known for years calling them names and insinuating that they are a horrible, intolerant, and hateful person who's going to be the demise of the country.

WTH? How are we going to fix this??

I honestly don't know, Reader, but everyone is responsible for their own emotions, words, and behavior.

The best thing you can do is surround yourself with people who love, support, and uplift you. They don't have to agree with you 100% of the time. They just can't be toxic.

Sadly, that might mean the people you really care about have to go. You have a right and responsibility to protect your mental and emotional well-being and do what's best for you.

Some people might consider it petty, but I consider it setting boundaries. You have to draw a line in the sand between what and who best serves you and toxic negativity.

It's difficult choice to make, and you might even feel like you're burning bridges, but remember: You too are a bridge.

Self-defense isn't just about your physical safety and well-being. It's also your mental and emotional well-being.

You deserve to be respected and appreciated.

Stay safe and strong,

Kelly
